Pre Kindy Our Pre Kindy Program focuses on learning through imaginative, cognitive and sensory play, using the indoor and outdoor environment as the classroom. It is a time to explore, and each child is encouraged to make meaning of their world through hands-on experiences. Each child is supported in developing his/her own unique gifts through a child-focused curriculum that acknowledges the whole child and further develops his/her unique capabilities and a love of learning. Children develop their creativity, emotional well-being, sense of belonging and social skills. As we venture on walks through the school to visit the chickens, Prayer Garden, Library and open play spaces, we develop a sense of ‘belonging’ to a larger community. Our program is based on the Early Years Learning Framework and has “a specific emphasis on play-based learning and recognises the importance of communication and language and social and emotional development.” (The Early Years Learning Framework-Belonging, Being and Becoming p.5). We aim to provide a learning environment that caters for the development of each child across the spiritual, social, emotional, language, cognitive, creative and physical domains. The wellbeing of each child is of great importance and we have a wellness session after lunch (in lieu of rest time). Our staff create a caring, safe and stimulating environment that nurtures and encourages each child to investigate, inquire, wonder and engage in nature-based play. We believe that the home-school partnership with our families is very important and we look forward to working together, welcoming conversations and communication. Children can attend Pre Kindy once he/she has turned 3 years of age. Our Pre Kindy sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday in the school term, between 9am and 2.45pm (classroom doors open at 8.45am). Pre Kindy Information Pre Kindy Booklet St Peter’s welcomes children into our Early Childhood Centre, our focus is to develop the whole child by providing an environment in which children feel they belong through a safe, secure, nurturing and stimulating environment. The Early Years program nurtures the growth and development of each child spiritually, socially, emotionally, cognitively and morally. The program acknowledges the values and beliefs of our children and an awareness of their differences and diversities. We believe in the importance of ‘learning through play’, providing play based experiences that enhance and enrich decision making skills, self-esteem and self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, resilience, good citizenship and respect for others. Parents are the primary educators We acknowledge that parents are their child’s first educators; our role is to support parents on their child’s faith and educational journey through experiences that nurture and develop each child’s sense of wonder and awe of God in their life and the world around them. We foster a strong partnership between home, school, parish and community, this is the is the key to ensure positive and successful learning outcomes for our children . Together we support our children to be, become and belong. We invite parent involvement through class rosters, excursions/ incursions and special events. 1/1 O ur Program Our Early Years program has strong emphasis on high-quality Literacy and Numeracy practices. This is achieved through explicit teaching and the development of critical thinking strategies to support the progress of student’s achievements in these areas. Providing a differentiated curriculum ensures we cater for the needs and capabilities of each child. We believe as educators our role is to provide programs that encourage our children to become happy, confident, active and life-long learners who construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world. The Superstore is professionally fitted-out and managed by highly trained staff, air conditioned and provides greater facilities for customers, including full credit card and eftpos facilities. Uniform Concepts also offers online ordering with the option of collection at the store or delivery to home. Uniform Guidelines Uniform Price List and Order Form Second-hand Uniform Shop The Second-hand Uniform Shop is a voluntary service provided by our Parents and Friends Association. All funds raised from the sale of second-hand uniforms are directed to the school to assist with funding for various items and activities. All uniform donations can be handed in at the front office. Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Welcome from the Principal My name is Daine Burnett, and it is my privilege to welcome you to our school. I was fortunate enough to be appointed as the Principal at St Peter's Primary School for 2026. Previous to this position, I have been involved in leadership roles within Catholic Education Western Australia for over twenty-five years. St Peter's Primary School caters for students from Pre Kindy through to Year Six, in a unique environment, which offers opportunities for each child to develop emotionally, spiritually, socially, physically and cognitively. This is achieved by providing and coordinating educational activities through a whole school approach, which develops an awareness and understanding of concepts necessary for life and an educational experience within the Catholic faith. Our core mission is to inspire students to learn, achieve and serve with integrity. Our core values TRUE - Trust, Respect, Unity, Excellence - are central to our school’s philosophy. We aim to nurture each child’s unique abilities, providing an environment where they can flourish emotionally, spiritually, academically and socially. By fostering a love for learning, we encourage students to look beyond appearances, seek deeper truths, and discover true happiness. We strive to develop each child’s full potential by recognising their individual giftedness. Learning is facilitated through a developmental approach that promotes cooperative and inquiry-based learning, which are strengthened using up to date technology. We provide a relevant, comprehensive and varied curriculum to suit a wide range of student needs, interests and abilities. All of these processes assist each child to be the best that they can be. We believe that parents are the foremost educators of their children, and our partnership with families is essential to student success. We encourage active parental involvement in school life. Together, we create a strong community spirit, where children learn not only from structured lessons but also from the adults around them. This partnership between home and school is mutually supportive, and it is our goal to work together in nurturing and guiding each child. At St Peter's, parents and staff join in a shared mission: to support the personal growth and educational development of every student, helping them become fully integrated, compassionate and capable individuals. We are very fortunate at St Peter's to have a very talented group of staff members, who see their roles in educating the children at St Peter's as their vocation. Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Learning Diversity At St Peter’s, we have a dedicated team of specialist teachers and Educational Assistants who work collaboratively to provide Literacy and Numeracy support to our students. Our Support team is committed to delivering intervention programs tailored to accelerate the progress of students who have been identified with specific needs. Our intervention programs are data-driven, ensuring close monitoring of each student's progress. We place a high priority on early intervention, recognising its significance in addressing needs promptly. Collaboration and communication with classroom teachers are integral to our approach. We believe in working closely with teachers to ensure continuity and effectiveness in our intervention strategies. Our team frequently collaborates with a range of professionals to provide holistic support to our students. This includes our school psychologist, our onsite Allied Health Service team from Hendercare, as well as external experts such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, tutors, and others. This collaborative approach ensures that our students receive comprehensive support tailored to their individual needs. In Kindergarten, we conduct Speech Therapy screening for each child to identify any areas of concern. Our annual assessment schedule ensures that all students are regularly monitored for their progress and any potential needs across all year levels. Furthermore, we conduct annual handover meetings where current classroom teachers transfer important information about their students to their future teachers. During these meetings, staff are briefed on any intervention strategies that have been employed to support students, ensuring continuity and progress from year to year. At St Peter’s, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. AQUINAS The AQUINAS program at St Peter’s School acknowledges the definitions used by Françoys Gagne’ when he states that Giftedness designates the possession and use of outstanding natural abilities, called aptitudes, in at least one ability domain, to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of age peers. And that talent designates the outstanding mastery of systematically developed abilities, called competencies (knowledge and skills), in at least one field of human activity to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of age peers who are or have been active in that field. As such, the St Peter’s School AQUINAS program aims to assist development of intellectual gifts, into talents by: appropriate identification using diagnostic testing, particularly from year 3 - 6 provision for early identification provision of external opportunities when possible and appropriate individual support where appropriate and possible inclusion of students in relevant competitions and experiences external to St Peter’s Primary School provision of well-planned extension (class withdrawal) programs that can include the development of a variety of skills including: independent working skills higher order thinking skills research skills self-regulation problem solving skills self-confidence and understanding intrinsic motivation Please click below to view the Postion Paper for AQUINAS Postion Paper AQUINAS Numeracy Support At St Peter’s, both students and teachers are well-supported in the Mathematics Learning Area. Students are provided with in-class support and small-group withdrawal support. Classroom teachers, support staff and Numeracy Co-ordinators all play a vital part in deciding which support structure is most relevant for our individual students. We perform extensive numeracy assessments and use current data to identify students who will receive numeracy support in both junior and upper primary. Teachers are also offered a range of support measures in Numeracy. Support is given to teachers when they are designing their classroom numeracy programs. This is also complemented by practical support being given whilst implementing individual Mathematics lessons. Staff attend professional Numeracy Development sessions each term. St Peter’s have an intervention specialist who implements the Extending Maths Understanding (EMU) Program for those students in junior primary who require support. EMU is a research-based intervention approach that improves students’ knowledge and confidence with Mathematics. In addition to EMU, the Bond Blocks program is also used to target the development of fundamental addition and subtraction skills, providing students with a strong foundation in early numeracy. Bond Blocks is a research-informed intervention program that incorporates high impact teaching strategies such as Multiple Exposure and Explicit Teaching. The program builds on maths skills such as doubling, halving and Bonds to 10 and 20. Students will have short, sharp, targeted sessions with the focus being on basic facts used for addition and subtraction. Literacy Support At St Peter’s, we offer students specialist support in the Literacy Learning Area through in-class support and small-group withdrawal sessions. We have a number of highly trained Educational Assistants who rotate throughout the school, offering additional in-class support during literacy dedicated time. Students who have been identified as having lower literacy skills are able to access specific intervention programs – MiniLit or MacqLit. MiniLit is an evidence-based, explicit and effective early literacy intervention program for small groups, offered in Years 1 to 2. It is a synthetic phonics- based program aimed at students finding reading and writing difficult. Within the program, students are taught to identify all 44 sounds in the English language and use the sounds to read and spell with accuracy. MiniLit is an integral part of the MultiLit suite of reading programs. MacqLit is an evidence-based, explicit and systematic reading intervention program for small groups of older low-progress readers from Years 3-6. As with MiniLit, it focuses on students recognising and using the 44 sounds in the English language to read and spell words and builds on learnt skills to break multi-syllabic words apart. It also includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Reading support is also offered to students in middle to upper year groups through small-group Reciprocal Reading sessions, an interactive teaching strategy for supporting readers to develop comprehension strategies. To support each child’s literacy development, our school incorporates a range of programs alongside our literacy intervention initiatives such as MiniLit and MacqLit. We also offer the HearBuilder program, which primarily targets auditory processing and language skills essential for literacy development, helping students who may not meet the entry requirements for some MultiLit programs, access intervention within the classroom. This approach also allows teachers to receive first-hand feedback on each child’s progress. Additionally, we provide Sunshine Online, giving students access to digital reading resources to further develop literacy skills on a different platform. Whole School Friendship Framework At St. Peter’s, fostering a safe and positive school culture is one of our priorities. We implement an internationally recognised program, Friendology 101 by URSTRONG. This comprehensive wellbeing program is designed to provide students with essential skills, language, and self-confidence to foster healthier friendships. Our goal in implementing Friendology 101 is to empower our students to navigate social interactions with confidence and empathy. Through a series of 8 age-appropriate sessions, our students will learn essential language and strategies to: Articulate their emotions effectively. Advocate for themselves respectfully. Resolve conflicts constructively, termed as putting out Friendship Fires® by URSTRONG. Differentiate between normal conflicts and intentional hurtful behaviour, referred to as 'mean on purpose' by URSTRONG, which aligns with our approach to addressing bullying. Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Religious Education Religious Education Religious Education at St Peter’s Primary school comprises two distinct but complementary dimensions – teaching religion as a curriculum area and developing the religious dimension of the school by nurturing the religious, spiritual and faith of our students. Religious Education is central to the curriculum and life of the school. It is taught in a context with the same systematic demands and rigour as all other learning areas and is sequenced to help children relate to the Catholic faith within their daily lives. The units of work are set by Catholic Education Western Australia and mandated by the Bishops of Western Australia. Religious Educations lessons are complemented by prayer, liturgical singing and class and whole school liturgies and prayer assemblies. Through Pastoral Care, we enhance the dignity of each person within our school community whilst maximising learning and growth. The pastoral care of St Peter’s Primary school children is of paramount importance and is a shared responsibility between the school and the home. Sacramental Programs The school assists parents in preparing their children for the Sacraments through Sacramental programmes which are family-focused, Parish-based and school-supported. Parent information sessions and parent/child workshops are held as part of the preparation for each sacrament. Children participate in Parish-based Sacramental programs in Year Three (Penance/ Reconciliation), Year Four (Eucharist) and Year Six (Confirmation). As the first faith educators of their children, our parents are an integral part of this preparation and are encouraged to be supportive and involved in the process.
