Raise funds for the further development of the St Peter’s Primary School community. WHAT WE DO Engage the class representative network to receive feedback from parents about issues of concern. Provide funding to support the educational, religious and social aims of the school. Support our students financially by providing annual scholarships. Recognise and encourage the support given by parents to our school community. p&f ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP Any parent or guardian of a child attending or enrolled at St Peter’s Primary School who supports the aims of the Association (Including a staff member who is a parent of an enrolled child) is classified as a member. Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE St Peter's Father Figures The St Peter’s Father Figures is about engaging the Father Figures in our school. There’s evidence to say that there is a strong influence on a child’s academic achievement, social success, health and well-being and attitude towards learning when fathers are involved. This can come about at a school level when there is consistent discussion and action with the child where both parents are working in collaboration with the school, and teachers, in regards to expectations, policies and procedures. We welcome all Father Figures in our school community to be part of any initiatives rolled out during the year, and we look forward to meeting you all. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email Matt Nettleton at: matt.nettleton@cewa.edu.au St Peter's Father Figures Run Club The initiative will be led by members of the Dads of St Peter’s Committee with the aim to promote health and well-being, and to engage the parents in our community, especially all father figures, to participate with their child in a variety of fun running activities. This includes relays, games and a circuit. We strongly encourage all parents to stay and participate in the activities as an opportunity to spend quality time with your child. Should you be unable to stay, students will be supervised by our dedicated staff who will be assisting on the day. Further Information: – The Run Club will be conducted at Grand Prom each Thursday morning from Week 5-10, starting at 7:45am. Students and parents can arrive and join in at any time. – Running Club is for everyone from Kindy – Year 6 – Students who participate in the Run Club are permitted to wear their Sports uniform for the duration of the day. – At the end of each session, students will continually run laps of a circuit, with each lap recorded. These laps will be tallied and will go towards a class total. The more students running, the more laps can be achieved! – Students will be walked back to school by the teachers for an 8:30am start. Lunch Orders are to be ordered online before 8.45am and will then be sent up to the classrooms at lunch time. Recess snacks can be purchased online through QuickCliq – Tuesdays-Thursdays only and collected by your child from the Canteen at reces s. All other recess and lunchtime snacks are to be paid for by cash and are available for Years 1-6 only, as the child is required to come to the canteen. Canteen Menu (PP - Year 6) Kindy Kindy students can order fresh foods and toasted sandwiches from the Canteen – online through QuickCliq. The hot daily specials are not available to Kindy students. About Us Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE About Us St Peter’s is a co-educational primary school located in the Bedford/Inglewood area of Perth. The school has 750 students from Pre Kindy to Year 6. The school was originally established by the Dominican Sisters in 1941. The school motto Veritas – Truth links us back to our Dominican foundation that was built by the Sisters. The Dominican mission which continues to be ours is to plant the seeds of faith to inform the hearts and minds of students. We aspire to be a place where the beauty and power of the Christian faith is never imposed but proposed in every possible way. School Profile St Peter’s School derives its strength from truth and honesty with God and one another. As we strive to model the love of Jesus, our teaching and learning will reflect the needs and interests of individuals and the community. St Peter's Primary School is a triple-stream, Catholic co-educational primary school situated approximately ten kilometres east of the Perth CBD. The school has an enrolment of approximately 750 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6, and draws the majority of its students from the parish of Bedford/Inglewood. Our vision is for our students to graduate as successful learners and are prepared for the future with a strong faith and the values of trust, respect, unity and excellence. At St Peter’s we derive strength from our motto ‘VERITAS’, meaning truth, which inspires us to learn, achieve and serve in truth. In addition to our motto there are four core values which underpin our school community: Trust, Respect, Unity and Excellence (TRUE). The staff provides an integrated curriculum for all students, with Religious Education as the focus. The curriculum draws together the concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes and values from the West Australian Curriculum in developing the competencies of critical and creative thinking, personal and social capabilties, and intercultural understanding. There are a range of specialist programs including Music, Drama/Dance, Science, Physical Education, Library, Italian, EMU, Reading Recovery and GATe. St Peter's has successfully endeavoured to establish close ties with the parent and school community, resulting in greater involvement by parents in their child's education, community building and, ultimately, better outcomes for students. The school endeavours to establish close links with parents that result in: Greater understanding by parents of their children’s schooling Greater understanding by teachers of the students and their needs Better communication between home and school High student morale and confidence More goodwill and mutual esteem between parents and teachers Greater involvement by parents in school activities A happier school School Profile School History The Past In the early 1920’s Archbishop Clune was approached in regards to the establishment of a Dominican Foundation in Perth. He already had a number of teaching orders operating within the Archdiocese and although he was in favour of the idea he felt the formation of a new foundation could not be justified. It was not until Archbishop Prenderville was installed that this idea took root. St Peter’s was the first church building to be erected in the new Parish of Bedford Park-Bayswater. The Hall was designed by architects Messrs Howard, Bonner & Tracy and built by contractor Mr G Hallier for under £2000. It was described as well lit and attractively designed and was officially opened in 1938. In Archbishop Prenderville’s opening speech he informed those present that it was his intention to eventually use St Peter’s Church (the current Church Hall) for a school and it had been designed to divide into 3 large classrooms. He also indicated that providing there was adequate enrolments he hoped to one day see a religious foundation established alongside the school. In 1940 the Parish Priest of Bedford Park, Father E. McBride sent a letter to the Archbishop on behalf of his parishioners expressing their desire to open a school. This letter was forwarded onto Mother Vincent Colgan with a note requesting she take on this appeal and make arrangements to erect a Convent as soon as possible. On 24 January 1941 a group of four Dominican Sisters travelled to Bedford Park from Dongara and rented a brick house at 38 Wood Street. When classes began in early 1941 only 26 children attended, which was almost half the expected 50 students the Dominican Sisters had hoped for. This changed quickly with the introduction of various subjects and awards won by the students of St Peter’s. The Hall not only accommodated Primary students in the main area, but also catered for Secondary students in the front room and later even a Music room (The Kitchen area). The construction of the new convent proved to be very difficult as it was one of the most dramatic and worrying periods in Australia’s history with wartime restrictions causing many unforeseen pressures and problems. Eventually on 3rd June 1942 the Dominican Sisters moved into their new convent at 103 Wood Street and it was officially opened on the 7th June by Archbishop Prenderville. This building is now our Administration Block. By the end of 1942, the enrolments were approximately 90 students. As the enrolments continued to climb the need for a larger school became apparent and in July 1953 with an enrolment of 253, including a number of Secondary students, the new St Peter’s School opened. It consisted of five classrooms, an office and a small enclosed hall. This site was located on the adjacent Salisbury Street and remained St Peter’s Primary School until 2006. In 1957 further expansions occurred with the construction of the new Secondary school, St Thomas Aquinas for girls from Years 8-12. The Secondary school was located on Salisbury Street and consisted of three classrooms, an office, two small rooms, a library and a Kindergarten room. Many improvements were made to the school and convent in the 1960’s and 70’s. A new church was built making the old Church the St Peter’s Parish Hall, St Peter’s Primary School and the secondary school St Thomas Aquinas site was re-modelled and grew extensively in size. In 1999 St Peter’s Primary School underwent extensive changes to cater for the larger enrolments. That was to be the final building program at the Salisbury Street site. In late 2001, St Peter’s Primary School and the Bedford Inglewood Parish were advised by the Catholic Education Office that the school would commence operating a second stream, boosting enrolments to over 500 students and therefore requiring a larger site. In 2003, the amalgamated St Thomas and St Marks – Chisholm Catholic College vacated the large secondary site and an extensive building program began to prepare the secondary site as the new St Peter’s Primary School. St Peter’s Church in the Bedford Park – Bayswater Parish went through numerous exciting and interesting challenges. The development, transition and success of the Parish and school were due to the hard work and dedication demonstrated by the Dominican sisters, the Parish Priest and the local community. The Present St Peter’s Primary School is located at 103 Wood Street Inglewood, approximately 6 kilometres north of the CBD. It is a triple streamed, co-educational school with a current enrolment of approximately 750 students from Pre-Kindy to Year 6. The school, which is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth, operates under the authority of the Catholic Education Commission through the Catholic Education Office and its Director. It was established by the Dominican Sisters in 1941. Our current site went through an extensive building program in 2005 with our relocation in 2006 from our old site on Salisbury Street. St Peter’s Church is located adjacent to the school and the school holds strong relationships with the Parish and wider community. The current Principal is Mr Justin Tuohy and the school employs approximately 75 staff. School Name/Patron Saint The school name, St Peter’s Primary School was adopted by the Dominican Sisters in the early 1940’s due to its links to the local Bedford Park – Bayswater (now Bedford/Inglewood) Parish. The Patron Saint of both the Parish and the school is St Peter who was also known as Simon Peter. St Peter was one of the Twelve Apostles whom Jesus chose as his original disciples. His life is prominently featured in the New Testament Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. Peter was a Galilean fisherman who was assigned a leadership role by Jesus. The Catholic Church considers Simon Peter a Saint and associates him with the foundation of the Church in Rome. St Peter’s feast day is the 29th June which is also celebrated with St Paul. St Peter is known for his work in continuing the work of Jesus in spreading the good news to the people and is often depicted holding the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. School History

Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Key Initiatives Inquiry 'Simply put, inquiry is the personal path of questioning, investigating and reasoning that takes us from not knowing to knowing' (Ferlazzo & Boss, 2015). Inquiry at St Peter's is meaningful and allows for authentic inquiry projects which has nurtured our students passions, talents, curiosities and interests. Students have taken ownership over their own learning and to reach personal goals. We have integrated the TRUE Inquiry Cycle into each classroom, which has developed our own critical and creative thinking skills through the different stages of our inquiry cycle - Wonder, Investigate & Explain, Design & Create, Share and Reflect. To cater for each child’s individual passions, curiosities and interests, each classroom has created ‘wonder’ walls and/or journals to encourage students to ask questions beyond the inquiry project. Inquiry allows students to develop and strengthen their critical and creative thinking skills! Don’t forget – ‘Curiosity is the fuel for discovery, inquiry and learning!’ 1:1 iPad Program Years 4 - 6 St Peter's has implemented a 1:1 iPad learning program for Y ears 4-6. Year 4 students are supplied with a new iPad, managed by the school with all necessary apps and available for home use. Providing the devices for home use can help to bridge the gap between school and home learning, allowing students to continue their learning outside of the classroom. Students having access to iPads can offer several benefits, such as improved access to educational resources, develop digital literacy skills, enhanced collaboration and communication, personalised learning experiences, improved organistion, increased productivity and increased engagement in the learning process. Here at St Peter's we use Microsoft Office 365 tools to teach, learn, lead, administer and collaborate and these are embedded in the teaching and learning practices of the school. Overall, implementing a 1:1 iPad learning program for Years 4-6 can have many benefits for students and can help to prepare them for a digital future. Wellbeing Program Over the past three years, a cult ure of wellbeing has been adopted across the school and benefits staff, students and the family community. It has had a c onsiderable impact on the classroom environment, emotional literacy of the students and overall wellbeing of all members at St Peter’s Primary School. The whole school wellness program equips students with the knowledge and strategies to tackle our increasingly challenging modern world and a number of initiatives are run at the school to place the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of each staff member and student as a priority.

Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Student Wellbeing Psychologist and School Social Worker School Psychologists and Social Workers play an important role in supporting students' academic, social-emotional and behavioural needs. They work collaboratively with the School Leadership Team, staff, caregivers, external agencies and students to provide a comprehensive support system. School Psychologists and School Social Workers engage with the school community, in both direct and indirect ways, addressing individual, group and systemic needs. Tarryn Scher, our School Psychologist, works at St Peter's one day per week and primarily focuses on psychological assessments. Melanie Rowe, our School Social Worker, is at the school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Given the large size of our school, the involvement of the School Psychologist or School Social Worker is determined by the Student Support Team based on school priorities. If you believe your child would benefit from their support, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher, who will follow up accordingly. Speech and OT Services Hendercare Therapy Services HenderCare is a therapy services team offering Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy onsite at St Peter’s Primary School, on Thursdays and Fridays. HenderCare provides Speech and OT services to private paying families, as well as families accessing the NDIS, and we are looking forward to working collaboratively to support the students and families in our school. Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Learning Diversity At St Peter’s, we have a dedicated team of specialist teachers and Educational Assistants who work collaboratively to provide Literacy and Numeracy support to our students. Our Support team is committed to delivering intervention programs tailored to accelerate the progress of students who have been identified with specific needs. Our intervention programs are data-driven, ensuring close monitoring of each student's progress. We place a high priority on early intervention, recognising its significance in addressing needs promptly. Collaboration and communication with classroom teachers are integral to our approach. We believe in working closely with teachers to ensure continuity and effectiveness in our intervention strategies. Our team frequently collaborates with a range of professionals to provide holistic support to our students. This includes our school psychologist, our onsite Allied Health Service team from Hendercare, as well as external experts such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, tutors, and others. This collaborative approach ensures that our students receive comprehensive support tailored to their individual needs. In Kindergarten, we conduct Speech Therapy screening for each child to identify any areas of concern. Our annual assessment schedule ensures that all students are regularly monitored for their progress and any potential needs across all year levels. Furthermore, we conduct annual handover meetings where current classroom teachers transfer important information about their students to their future teachers. During these meetings, staff are briefed on any intervention strategies that have been employed to support students, ensuring continuity and progress from year to year. At St Peter’s, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. AQUINAS The AQUINAS program at St Peter’s School acknowledges the definitions used by Françoys Gagne’ when he states that Giftedness designates the possession and use of outstanding natural abilities, called aptitudes, in at least one ability domain, to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of age peers. And that talent designates the outstanding mastery of systematically developed abilities, called competencies (knowledge and skills), in at least one field of human activity to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of age peers who are or have been active in that field. As such, the St Peter’s School AQUINAS program aims to assist development of intellectual gifts, into talents by: appropriate identification using diagnostic testing, particularly from year 3 - 6 provision for early identification provision of external opportunities when possible and appropriate individual support where appropriate and possible inclusion of students in relevant competitions and experiences external to St Peter’s Primary School provision of well-planned extension (class withdrawal) programs that can include the development of a variety of skills including: independent working skills higher order thinking skills research skills self-regulation problem solving skills self-confidence and understanding intrinsic motivation Please click below to view the Postion Paper for AQUINAS Postion Paper AQUINAS Numeracy Support At St Peter’s, both students and teachers are well-supported in the Mathematics Learning Area. Students are provided with in-class support and small-group withdrawal support. Classroom teachers, support staff and Numeracy Co-ordinators all play a vital part in deciding which support structure is most relevant for our individual students. We perform extensive numeracy assessments and use current data to identify students who will receive numeracy support in both junior and upper primary. Teachers are also offered a range of support measures in Numeracy. Support is given to teachers when they are designing their classroom numeracy programs. This is also complemented by practical support being given whilst implementing individual Mathematics lessons. Staff attend professional Numeracy Development sessions each term. St Peter’s have an intervention specialist who implements the Extending Maths Understanding (EMU) Program for those students in junior primary who require support. EMU is a research-based intervention approach that improves students’ knowledge and confidence with Mathematics. In addition to EMU, the Bond Blocks program is also used to target the development of fundamental addition and subtraction skills, providing students with a strong foundation in early numeracy. Bond Blocks is a research-informed intervention program that incorporates high impact teaching strategies such as Multiple Exposure and Explicit Teaching. The program builds on maths skills such as doubling, halving and Bonds to 10 and 20. Students will have short, sharp, targeted sessions with the focus being on basic facts used for addition and subtraction. Literacy Support At St Peter’s, we offer students specialist support in the Literacy Learning Area through in-class support and small-group withdrawal sessions. We have a number of highly trained Educational Assistants who rotate throughout the school, offering additional in-class support during literacy dedicated time. Students who have been identified as having lower literacy skills are able to access specific intervention programs – MiniLit or MacqLit. MiniLit is an evidence-based, explicit and effective early literacy intervention program for small groups, offered in Years 1 to 2. It is a synthetic phonics- based program aimed at students finding reading and writing difficult. Within the program, students are taught to identify all 44 sounds in the English language and use the sounds to read and spell with accuracy. MiniLit is an integral part of the MultiLit suite of reading programs. MacqLit is an evidence-based, explicit and systematic reading intervention program for small groups of older low-progress readers from Years 3-6. As with MiniLit, it focuses on students recognising and using the 44 sounds in the English language to read and spell words and builds on learnt skills to break multi-syllabic words apart. It also includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Reading support is also offered to students in middle to upper year groups through small-group Reciprocal Reading sessions, an interactive teaching strategy for supporting readers to develop comprehension strategies. To support each child’s literacy development, our school incorporates a range of programs alongside our literacy intervention initiatives such as MiniLit and MacqLit. We also offer the HearBuilder program, which primarily targets auditory processing and language skills essential for literacy development, helping students who may not meet the entry requirements for some MultiLit programs, access intervention within the classroom. This approach also allows teachers to receive first-hand feedback on each child’s progress. Additionally, we provide Sunshine Online, giving students access to digital reading resources to further develop literacy skills on a different platform. Whole School Friendship Framework At St. Peter’s, fostering a safe and positive school culture is one of our priorities. We implement an internationally recognised program, Friendology 101 by URSTRONG. This comprehensive wellbeing program is designed to provide students with essential skills, language, and self-confidence to foster healthier friendships. Our goal in implementing Friendology 101 is to empower our students to navigate social interactions with confidence and empathy. Through a series of 8 age-appropriate sessions, our students will learn essential language and strategies to: Articulate their emotions effectively. Advocate for themselves respectfully. Resolve conflicts constructively, termed as putting out Friendship Fires® by URSTRONG. Differentiate between normal conflicts and intentional hurtful behaviour, referred to as 'mean on purpose' by URSTRONG, which aligns with our approach to addressing bullying. Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Literacy & Numeracy Literacy At St Peter’s, we understand successful and continued literacy development for all students relies on the highest quality of teaching practice in this area. Literacy learners are provided with a supportive learning environment, developmentally appropriate learning experiences and engage in a range of highly effective instructional strategies. Our teaching approach is based on understanding the development of literacy acquisition, including responsive literacy learning pathways. These are based on student needs, skills and strategies, catering for diversity in learning. St Peter’s Literacy teaching approach incorporates a broad range of teaching pedagogies, balancing the use of structured explicit strategies with student-centred, authentic learning experiences. All literacy teaching and learning includes modelled, shared, guided and independent learning activities. Numeracy St Peter’s strongly affirms that in all areas of schooling, students who self-discover connections in their learning make their learning more meaningful and retainable. In numeracy, we are transforming our lessons from “mimicking lessons” to “thinking lessons.” Staff are regularly trained by Numeracy Leaders and Catholic Education officers in current numeracy practices. At St Peter’s, we are implementing lessons that follow a “Launch, Explore, Summarise” approach. Teachers cleverly Launch a problem or scenario, students are given time to Explore and this is followed by a teacher-led Summary. These lessons are designed to encourage students to make the mathematical links prior to being explicitly shown by teachers. Again, we are aiming to provide “thinking lessons” in numeracy. In conjunction to this, we also see value in explicitly teaching mathematical skills and processes. St Peter’s is extremely well-resourced with an array of hands-on numeracy resources. These are kept in a central hub in the school and teachers are aware of the available resources. Classrooms are well-equipped with an array of hands-on numeracy materials. Students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 have regular access to Mathematics resources kept in their classrooms. Students in Junior Primary are provided with a “Take Home Maths Pack” with materials such as dice, playing cards and counters. With instruction and guidance from the classroom teacher, these packs promote mathematical fun and reinforcement in the home.
