- About Us | St Peter's
At St Peter's Primary School, Inglewood our core purpose as a Catholic school is to inspire our students to learn, achieve and to serve in truth. There is a striving to see beyond appearances to greater realities and true happiness. Welcome from the Principal My name is Daine Burnett, and it is my privilege to welcome you to our school. I was fortunate enough to be appointed as the Principal at St Peter's Primary School for 2026. Previous to this position, I have been involved in leadership roles within Catholic Education Western Australia for over twenty-five years. St Peter's Primary School caters for students from Pre Kindy through to Year Six, in a unique environment, which offers opportunities for each child to develop emotionally, spiritually, socially, physically and cognitively. This is achieved by providing and coordinating educational activities through a whole school approach, which develops an awareness and understanding of concepts necessary for life and an educational experience within the Catholic faith. Our core mission is to inspire students to learn, achieve and serve with integrity. Our core values TRUE - Trust, Respect, Unity, Excellence - are central to our school’s philosophy. We aim to nurture each child’s unique abilities, providing an environment where they can flourish emotionally, spiritually, academically and socially. By fostering a love for learning, we encourage students to look beyond appearances, seek deeper truths, and discover true happiness. We strive to develop each child’s full potential by recognising their individual giftedness. Learning is facilitated through a developmental approach that promotes cooperative and inquiry-based learning, which are strengthened using up to date technology. We provide a relevant, comprehensive and varied curriculum to suit a wide range of student needs, interests and abilities. All of these processes assist each child to be the best that they can be. We believe that parents are the foremost educators of their children, and our partnership with families is essential to student success. We encourage active parental involvement in school life. Together, we create a strong community spirit, where children learn not only from structured lessons but also from the adults around them. This partnership between home and school is mutually supportive, and it is our goal to work together in nurturing and guiding each child. At St Peter's, parents and staff join in a shared mission: to support the personal growth and educational development of every student, helping them become fully integrated, compassionate and capable individuals. We are very fortunate at St Peter's to have a very talented group of staff members, who see their roles in educating the children at St Peter's as their vocation. The time, energy, effort and expertise given to the children is second to none, and while we are well-resourced, the greatest resource we have is our wonderful staff. St Peter's is a strong community that works together as one with parents, students, staff and the parish to foster an environment that can enable us all to reach our fullest potential. I look forward to seeing you in the future and hope that you will take the time to journey with us through our school and will soon see life at St Peter's Primary School. - St Peter's Father Figures | St Peter's Primary
Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE St Peter's Father Figures The St Peter’s Father Figures is about engaging the Father Figures in our school. There’s evidence to say that there is a strong influence on a child’s academic achievement, social success, health and well-being and attitude towards learning when fathers are involved. This can come about at a school level when there is consistent discussion and action with the child where both parents are working in collaboration with the school, and teachers, in regards to expectations, policies and procedures. We welcome all Father Figures in our school community to be part of any initiatives rolled out during the year, and we look forward to meeting you all. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email Matt Nettleton at: matt.nettleton@cewa.edu.au St Peter's Father Figures Run Club The initiative will be led by members of the Dads of St Peter’s Committee with the aim to promote health and well-being, and to engage the parents in our community, especially all father figures, to participate with their child in a variety of fun running activities. This includes relays, games and a circuit. We strongly encourage all parents to stay and participate in the activities as an opportunity to spend quality time with your child. Should you be unable to stay, students will be supervised by our dedicated staff who will be assisting on the day. Further Information: – The Run Club will be conducted at Grand Prom each Thursday morning from Week 5-10, starting at 7:45am. Students and parents can arrive and join in at any time. – Running Club is for everyone from Kindy – Year 6 – Students who participate in the Run Club are permitted to wear their Sports uniform for the duration of the day. – At the end of each session, students will continually run laps of a circuit, with each lap recorded. - Literacy & Numeracy | St Peter's
Trust Respect Unity Excellence #TRUE Literacy & Numeracy Literacy At St Peter’s, we understand successful and continued literacy development for all students relies on the highest quality of teaching practice in this area. Literacy learners are provided with a supportive learning environment, developmentally appropriate learning experiences and engage in a range of highly effective instructional strategies. Our teaching approach is based on understanding the development of literacy acquisition, including responsive literacy learning pathways. These are based on student needs, skills and strategies, catering for diversity in learning. St Peter’s Literacy teaching approach incorporates a broad range of teaching pedagogies, balancing the use of structured explicit strategies with student-centred, authentic learning experiences. All literacy teaching and learning includes modelled, shared, guided and independent learning activities. Numeracy St Peter’s strongly affirms that in all areas of schooling, students who self-discover connections in their learning make their learning more meaningful and retainable. In numeracy, we are transforming our lessons from “mimicking lessons” to “thinking lessons.” Staff are regularly trained by Numeracy Leaders and Catholic Education officers in current numeracy practices. At St Peter’s, we are implementing lessons that follow a “Launch, Explore, Summarise” approach. Teachers cleverly Launch a problem or scenario, students are given time to Explore and this is followed by a teacher-led Summary. These lessons are designed to encourage students to make the mathematical links prior to being explicitly shown by teachers. Again, we are aiming to provide “thinking lessons” in numeracy. In conjunction to this, we also see value in explicitly teaching mathematical skills and processes. St Peter’s is extremely well-resourced with an array of hands-on numeracy resources. These are kept in a central hub in the school and teachers are aware of the available resources. Classrooms are well-equipped with an array of hands-on numeracy materials. Students from Pre Kindy to Year 6 have regular access to Mathematics resources kept in their classrooms. Students in Junior Primary are provided with a “Take Home Maths Pack” with materials such as dice, playing cards and counters. With instruction and guidance from the classroom teacher, these packs promote mathematical fun and reinforcement in the home.
