Message from the Principal

Prayer for the Assumption of Mary
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Dear Parents and Guardians

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION – Students in Year 4 will receive the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time on Saturday 20th August at 3.30pm and Sunday 21st August at 11.30am. This is a special occasion for them and their families. For the children receiving their First Holy Communion, we pray that they will experience the promise of Christ in a unique way.

BISHOPS’ RELIGIOUS LITERACY ASSESSMENT – The assessment for students in Years 3 and 5 have occurred this week. The Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment is a curriculum-based assessment which reflects and supports the progressive nature of the K-12 Religious Education Units. It focuses on a student’s ability to recall content about the Catholic Religion and assesses their knowledge and understanding of Religious Education, it does not measure a student’s faith. The intended purpose of the assessment is to provide individual schools with a snapshot of student performance in Religious Education.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY – We are very proud of our athletes who will represent St Peter’s at the State Cross Country event next Friday 12th August. The event will take place at UWA Sports Park, Mt Claremont. This Cross Country Championship is open to all Year 3-6 Western Australian school students. I thank Mr Spencer, Miss Hoppenbrouwers and Mr Jackson Lamb for supporting the extra morning training sessions in Mrs Perrin’s absence. Another fine example of Unity at our school.

WHITE POLO SHIRT UNIFORM CHANGE – You are invited to complete P & F Survey – St Peter’s White Polo Shirt Uniform Change, which will only take 2 minutes to complete. Please submit your response by Friday 12/08/2022. P&F Uniform Change Survey

NEW LIBRARY SPACE – Excitement is building as the temporary fencing has been cleared and our new Library is near completion. We know our students from Pre Kindy to Year 6 are very excited to use the new space from Week 5 of this term. Yes, WOW Week will be extra WOW as we begin to enjoy the new contemporary space. We are planning new furniture and will be opening a competition to our students to come up with the name of our new space.

SCIENCE WEEK – Glass Inspired Science Activities are headed our way during WOW Week! Our St Peter’s students will explore “Glass” in the world around us, as we celebrate National Science Week. Incursions are booked and there will be a joint project created in that week between our Science and Art teachers. Exciting times ahead for all our students.

SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY – Thank you to those in our community who recently completed the School Climate Data surveys. We had 157 responses by our families, all our students in middle and upper primary participated along with our teaching and non-teaching staff. This survey data will be reviewed by the School Improvement Team at a day co-ordinated by CEWA in early October. These results will empower our discussions in developing our 2023 School Improvement Plan.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL PARENTS OF WA AWARDS – This evening, I will join the hardworking St Peter’s P&F Executive at the Awards of Excellence evening. Congratulations to the St Peter’s Father Figure Committee for their nomination for the Agnes Weymouth Award and Paul Brennan and the St Peter the Apostle Parish for their nomination for the Parish Category. We wish them well this evening and thank them for their work in building a positive catholic school community.

There is a beautiful quote from Janusz Korczak, (a Polish Jewish educator, children’s author and Principal of an orphanage in Warsaw), that I would like to share with you. This quote and the sentiment within, are my hopes and prayer for the children entrusted in our care here at St Peter’s.
“Children are not the people of tomorrow but are people of today. They have a right to be taken seriously, and to be treated with tenderness and respect. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be. ‘The unknown person’ inside of them is our hope for the future.”

Ciao and keep smiling
