Message from the Principal

Fast This Lent?

Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and trust in God.
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

SWIMMING CARNIVAL – The weather was kind to us and we enjoyed a fabulous Year 4-6 Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 3 April at Bayswater Waves. I congratulate the students on their commitment to competing for their faction and trying their best. Well done to our winning faction Siena, who enjoyed the win, after a long drought!
(10 years since their last win in the water!) The loudest faction was Dominic who won the 2019 cheering award.
I wish to acknowledge our Captains who encouraged their team mates and assisted in marshaling competitors throughout the day. Thank you to Oliver Tansley,
Joshua Clements, Ricky Italiano, Caitlyn Wu, Thomas Smith, Sienna McDonald, Hayden Etherington and Madison Shiphard.
My sincere thanks to our parent volunteers and the extraordinary number of parents who came to cheer on their children.
I wish to acknowledge the extraordinary amount of work Alison Miles has demonstrated in preparing the students for the event and the coordination of the event itself. All our staff did a fabulous job of ensuring the program ran smoothly and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Please see below gallery of photos.
We have received positive feedback for our Swimming Club trial at Mercedes College this year, at no cost to families. A wonderful initiative by Alison and one supported by our fabulous families.

PARENT – TEACHER MEETINGS – I thank you, the families for their support of this important feedback process in your child’s learning journey. The opportunity to discuss strengths and areas of growth are essential in your children’s educational development.

HAVE SUM FUN ONLINE MATHS COMPETITION – Congratulations to Year 5M boys – Luke Antenucci, Jake Bruining, Mitchell Glover, Brian Lim and Ryder Pham who came 2nd in the Have Sum Fun Online Competition. The boys will enjoy a $15 Coles / Myer reward card. A terrific achievement!

KINDERGARTEN COFFEE MORNINGS – Next term, I will be meeting with Kindy parents to meet in an informal setting and discuss early learning priorities. I will also hold an informal gathering for families to join me for coffee as I continue to meet members of our community and develop an understanding of priorities moving forward.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SCREENERS – These have been completed on all our Kindy students. This process is invaluable in providing information on speech and language skills, strengths and weaknesses. This is fabulous data for teachers to develop differentiated learning to meet individual needs. It also gives parents information to support early interventions.

SCHOOL OVAL – A reminder to families that they need to keep the oval area clear whilst sport is taking place. Miss Miles is trying to facilitate her program whilst navigating young siblings and adults engaged in conversations.

FATHER JERONIMO – I wish to acknowledge the personal loss Father Jeronimo has recently experienced with the loss of his friend, Father Joseph. I acknowledge
Father Jeronimo’s commitment to our school and Parish with his unwavering faith and support of our spiritual commitment to our students. I want Father Jeronimo to know that he is in our prayers always.

HOLY WEEK – Week 10 of this term will be dedicated to our commitment to Holy Week celebrations. We encourage parents to join us where possible in preparation for Easter, where we remember Christ’s resurrection from the dead. Easter represents the fulfilment of God’s promises to all mankind have been received.

PARISH MASSES – As a focus with our ASIP, we are concentrating on integrating Parish and School Eucharistic celebrations. We are pleased to acknowledge that, our students’ class Masses being celebrated at the Parish Mass have been well received by teachers, students, parents and parishioners. We thank Father Jeronimo for supporting this 2019 initiative.

EVANGELISATION PLANNING DAYS – The leadership team will attend three days on Evangelisation Planning for staff from 8–10 April. The days are facilitated by
Bishop Holohan and conducted at the Catholic Education Office.

I thank you for a wonderful welcome to the St Peter’s community and I wish you all a safe and joyful Easter and school holiday break. We will see you safe and sound, in
Term 2, with the children wearing their winter uniform, on Tuesday 30 April.

Ciao and keep smiling!
