Message from the Principal

Into the heavenly glory the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Your Son:
Grant, we beseech You, that, ever intent upon heavenly things,
we may be worthy to be partakers of her glory.

Dear Parents and Guardians

WOW WEEK – This week, our community had the chance to focus on the importance of rest and renewal. Many studies and much research abound which articulates the importance of rest to build on our capacities to learn.
Jesus Himself articulated on a number of occasions the importance of rest.

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them,
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

~Mark 6:31

The purpose of Wellness Week is to give everyone, students, families and staff, an opportunity to slow down and take time to focus on our mental health and well-being. During this week, no homework is given to students, families are encouraged to take this opportunity to spend time with each other, visit grandparents, go walking, have a midweek picnic, spend time in prayer and generally spend quality time together and downtime to reboot our mental health. Students are provided with the opportunity to relax and recharge. Staff are also given the opportunity to focus on their own mental health and well-being. I know we are all busy, but I hope you were able to co-ordinate your family calendars and spend this time together and make it a special family time. Perhaps aim in our next WOW Week to a screen-free pledge night. This is a great opportunity to be together as a family. Have the whole family turn their devices off, place them somewhere away and out of view…then as a family do something together…cook, go for a swim, bike ride, read…anything you would like to share as a family. We have captured in our newsletter the many opportunities families shared with us as they celebrated WOW week.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY – I congratulate our runners who participated and gave their best in this state event. There were over 80 Schools participating and it is certainly a huge achievement for our school to be competing at this level. I congratulate our amazing runners who committed themselves to the many training sessions provided by our dedicated staff. Please see further on in the newsletter from Miss Miles.

INTERSCHOOL SPELLING BEE – On 18 August, our amazing spellers from Years 3-6 represented St Peter’s at the Regional Interschool Spelling Bee. The children were selected to participate in the Interschool competition by winning an onsite school competition, where they were required to spell words with a varying degree of difficulty. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent their year group:

Year Three
Isabelle How Kim Kam
Loni O’Brien

Year Four
Angelina Nguyen
Hamish Nielson

Year Five
Zachary Hunter
Finn Jackson

Year Six
Claudia Maric
Cassandra Riches

A special mention to Angelina Nguyen (Year 4 Runner-Up) on her outstanding performance. It was a fun and memorable day for everyone involved!

SCIENCE WEEK – This week, our students celebrated Science week with exciting experiments and exploration in our Science classes. Year 3 students enjoyed a visit to Scitech on Wednesday to celebrate the week. The finale of the week ended with a Marshmallow challenge at assembly and the winners of the Science Week competition were announced. There were many happy scientists in our midst.

BOOK WEEK – There will be many wonderful characters escaping from their books into the grounds of our school next week. Thank you in advance to our families for supporting the theme of Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. It seems fitting to end with a Dr Seuss quote. I have been a fan of Dr Seuss longer than I care to admit, and over the years I have used this particular quote as a reminder to myself that God has gifted me with all the tools that I need in life to succeed. It is up to me to use them effectively.

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
Dr Seuss

Ciao and keep smiling
