Dear Parents and Caregivers

The energy, enthusiasm and engagement of our students and staff in Term 2 have been a great example of our TRUE values, a love of learning and the importance of community. It has been evident at the beginning of this term that the relationships between teachers and their students have been strengthened by this crisis. In responding to the crisis, the collaboration, perseverance, and commitment of our community has been inspirational and demonstrates a high level of trust and confidence in the time ahead. The positive feedback we have received from our community has truly strengthened us during challenging times.

EXPLICIT TEACHING
The CEWA review has now been completed. It is recommended that students return to school. To that end, commencing Monday 18 May, St Peter’s will return to explicit teaching of new content. This learning will be the one mode of delivery.
Students are expected to attend school unless they are unwell, have chronic medical conditions or have medical authorisation to learn from home.
Please complete the following link by 11am on Friday 15 May ONLY if your child WILL NOT be attending school.

Students Not Attending School Form

I will then make contact with the family to discuss alternative learning arrangements. While we will return to explicit teaching, there will continue to be restrictions in place to support the health and safety of students and staff. These will include:

1. The provision of Liturgies and Merit Awards will be online.
2. Until advised differently by CEWA and the Health Department, we will not conduct assemblies, excursions or large gatherings.
3. Protocols for drop off and pick up will remain in place. Parents are to remain OFF school grounds. Parents are to remain in their cars. If you are walking to the gate, there are social distanced stickers where parents will wait to collect their children. It is important that parents do not gather in large groups outside the school grounds.

The drop off and pick up procedures are as follows:

SALISBURY STREET DROP OFF AND PICK UP

KINDY – YEAR 1 (WITH OLDER SIBLINGS ) – Drop off 8.15am – 8.45am.
Children are collected from their car by staff and gather in the Undercover area with their teachers.
Siblings in Years 2-6 walk directly to class.

KINDY PICK UP – 2.30pm (with older siblings – PP- Year 6)

PRE-PRIMARY PICK UP – 2.50pm (with older siblings – Years 1-6)

YEAR 1 PICK UP – 3pm (with older siblings – Years 2 -6)

Parents picking up from the gate will have a clearly defined area to stand and wait for their child.
Please keep the gate area CLEAR so that staff can escort children to their cars.

WOOD STREET DROP OFF AND PICK UP

YEARS 2-6 – Drop off 8.15am – 8.45am.
Students walk straight to class.

YEARS 5-6 – 2.45pm Pick Up (with younger siblings – Years 2-4)

YEARS 2-4 – 3pm Pick Up

As we cater for 503 families, we require all cars to have the family name clearly identified on the front windscreen or sun visor.
It is important that parents exercise PATIENCE at the Drop Off and Pick Up zones. You may experience delays as we ensure all children are escorted to their cars. We look forward to your support as we ensure the safety of every child.

WINTER UNIFORM
Due to difficulties in meeting the high demand of winter uniform items, together with the restrictions placed on Uniform Shop access, please be reassured that we are understanding of the transition to winter uniform.

CLEANING AND HYGIENE
St Peter’s will continue to ensure that environmental cleaning practices are in place, with enhanced routines where necessary. Students will be required to continue with hygiene practices, and this will be re-emphasised consistently throughout the day.
It is important that children bring TWO water bottles as they do not have access to the water fountains.

LIBRARY AND CANTEEN
Both areas reopen for children to access. We will continue with no money transactions in the Canteen.

PARENT ROSTERS
We are blessed to have an engaged parent community who support us in classrooms on roster. Unfortunately, we have been advised that there are no parents allowed on school grounds, which will include class rosters. We will advise once the situation changes.

PARENT TEACHER MEETINGS
Once we receive direction from the Government, CEWA and Health Department regarding parents on the school site, we will coordinate Parent/Teacher meetings.

STUDENTS WHO ARE UNWELL
All Australians have been advised by the Chief Medical Officer to stay at home if displaying ANY flu like systems. Please ensure that you keep your child at home if they are unwell. Children, at school, displaying flu like systems will be sent home to maintain the safety of all students and adults at school.

STUDENT AND FAMILY TRAVEL
Any family travelling interstate or overseas must self-isolate before returning to school, as per health regulations.

SCHOOL OFFICE
We are unable to have parents in our school office due to Health Department guidelines. All staff are present and can be accessed via phone or email.
Our Premier will be making an announcement tomorrow regarding schools. Any pertinent information that influences procedures at the school will be communicated to our families.

We thank you for your ongoing support as we transition back to school and I am sure that together we can make the
‘new normal’ work for all members of our magnificent St Peter’s community.

Ciao and keep smiling

Pina Hutcheson
